Today, AutoCAD is used in most fields where designing and drafting are needed. AutoCAD runs on multiple platforms, including desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile devices. The current version of AutoCAD is 2019.
AutoCAD Summary (Key features)
1.Can create complex drawings with extensive automation, support, and interfaces, including the ability to integrate specialized applications and communicate with other software.
2.Software provides a full set of drafting tools and geometry options. A variety of symbols, linetypes, and line styles are available to create illustrations. Create detailed parts, assembly drawings, and much more.
3.Automatic 2D coordinate system from the user interface.
4.An extensive 2D and 3D drawing environment, with tools for creating simple shapes, creating and editing solids and surfaces, creating and editing dynamic attributes, and creating multileveled surfaces.
5.Use text for labeling and annotation and save text as styles. Create text with various text styles, such as variable fonts, bold, italics, and shadows.
6.Measure, align, and annotate drawings with the ability to graphically and automatically create and apply formulas and calculations.
7.Create tabular drawings with the ability to group, sort, and organize tabular data. The tabular information is presented in a convenient tabular style, with styles to match the text and graphic elements.
8.Support paper and electronic publishing, including features to enable presentations and publication.
9.Supports sophisticated graphics, rendering, and animation.
10.AutoCAD is available in two editions: Standard and Architectural. In addition to the standard and architectural editions, AutoCAD 2017 also offers the Technical edition, a more professional CAD version.
How does AutoCAD work?
Like many CAD programs, AutoCAD requires the user to prepare drawings in a drawing system. The user can create and edit drawings from scratch. However, AutoCAD has a pre-set drawing template (“schematic”) which can be used to create an entire drawing. The user can use this drawing template and customize it for the specific drawings that are to be created.
To start drawing a drawing, the user chooses the type of drawing. A drawing template is usually assigned by default, or the user can manually select one from the list of available drawing templates.
Command-line software, which can be invoked from command line in Microsoft Windows.
Power users, scientists, and hobbyists
Power users and scientists have sought different kinds of support for AutoCAD. These are largely focused on development, data management, and storage of CAD-related data.
AutoCAD Remote Access: Remotely access a machine’s AutoCAD drawings, display graphics, and perform commands on drawings without running AutoCAD on the target computer.
AutoCAD Runtime, an API that allows applications other than AutoCAD to operate on drawings.
CADSharp is an open-source project that provides functionality similar to AutoCAD’s Visual LISP and Visual Basic programming languages. Its API is compatible with AutoLISP and Visual LISP, though it is not based on them. It is a managed-code environment (and thus not available for all platforms), and was originally developed for Microsoft Windows.
CADScript is an extension of Visual LISP for AutoCAD.
AutoCAD Viewer: allows “project” style viewing of AutoCAD drawings, i.e. in layers and states.
AutoCAD Guide: allows the creation of a set of rules, in the form of a simple text file, that govern the drawing of geometric elements.
AutoCAD Workbench, a powerful, highly integrated environment that offers many CAD functionality features. Its objects include tables, views, text and graphics, geometry and commands.
BFC (Build Forge Command) is a command line program that is a generator of AutoLISP scripts.
AutoLISP is a programming language based on AutoLISP and Visual LISP for AutoCAD.
AutoCAD PDF is a PDF file format produced by AutoCAD that can be used as a reference material for AutoCAD.
AutoCAD is widely used in Chinese. AutoLISP scripts (AutoCAD’s programming language) and ObjectARX, Autodesk’s object oriented translation framework, allow localization and language support in translation. Over 60 language translators are available for AutoCAD.
In its early history, AutoCAD was a separate application. It was a desktop-only application, and had limited network support. In the mid-1990s, a module was added for network-based use, called the Network Subsystem. In 2000, AutoCAD LT was introduced to replace

What’s new in AutoCAD 2017
We are excited to announce the release of AutoCAD 2017. This is a completely new version of the world’s leading 2D drafting and 3D design software. Key highlights of the new version include more powerful drawing and editing, collaboration, an interactive web experience, enhanced accessibility, and new security capabilities.
Here are the key new capabilities and features in AutoCAD 2017:
Traditional 2D drawing experience:
Intuitive and efficient 2D drawing experience to enhance the desktop experience.
