Equipped with the right applications, a computer can be of great help in virtually any domain of activity. When it comes to designing and precision, no other tool is as accurate as a computer. Moreover, specialized applications such as AutoCAD give you the possibility to design nearly anything ranging from art, to complex mechanical parts or even buildings.
Suitable for business environments and experienced users
After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.
Create 2D and 3D objects
You can make use of basic geometrical shapes to define your objects, as well as draw custom ones. Needless to say that you can take advantage of a multitude of tools that aim to enhance precision. A grid can be enabled so that you can easily snap elements, as well as adding anchor points to fully customize shapes.
With a little imagination and patience on your behalf, nearly anything can be achieved. Available tools allow you to create 3D objects from scratch and have them fully enhanced with high-quality textures. A powerful navigation pane is put at your disposal so that you can carefully position the camera to get a clearer view of the area of interest.
Various export possibilities
Similar to a modern web browser, each project is displayed in its own tab. This comes in handy, especially for comparison views. Moreover, layouts and layers also play important roles, as it makes objects handling a little easier.
Sine the application is not the easiest to carry around, requiring a slightly sophisticated machine to properly run, there are several export options put at your disposal so that the projects itself can be moved around.
Aside from the application specific format, you can save as an image file of multiple types, PDF, FBX and a few more. Additionally, it can be sent via email, directly printed out on a sheet of paper, or even sent to a 3D printing service, if available.
To end with
All in all, AutoCAD remains one of the top applications used by professionals to achieve great precision with projects of nearly any type. It encourages usage with incredible offers for student licenses so you get acquainted with its abundance of features early on. A lot can be said about what it can and can't do, but the true surprise lies in discovering it step-by-step.

How did AutoCAD start?
AutoCAD started out as a new concept – a way to design and draft drawings. It could be utilized on your own desktops, in your home office, or in a company.
AutoCAD was built as a desktop app because, at the time, mainframe computers were very expensive. It was also an early example of user-friendly software. It was quite a feat, because for many years, the only computer users who had the skills and patience to learn how to use AutoCAD were professionals.
In the late 1980s, computer technology began to change, bringing it into the office environment. The size of computers had decreased, and they were now portable. By the early 1990s, computers had become inexpensive enough for everyone to have one. With the advent of the internet, you could also access the internet from anywhere. These advances allowed the masses to enter the world of desktop CAD.
How AutoCAD won over the pros?
All you had to do was plug in the computer, open the software, and start using it. A CAD operator didn’t need to buy, install, and then learn a whole new system – which could take a couple of months. This change put some things on the back burner, but opened up a whole new world for many individuals and companies.
Not only could the masses enter the world of CAD, they actually got to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The lines began to move and the deadlines passed.
Who bought AutoCAD?
CAD programs were a hit. AutoCAD was so successful it actually brought on a commercial revolution. Every day there was a new challenge, and an even bigger market. The tools they needed to use AutoCAD changed, as did their needs. The requirements of architects and designers changed in ways AutoCAD didn’t. It adapted, and with that, the masses really began to enjoy CAD.
Where did AutoCAD come from?
AutoCAD was created by two companies – Grinnell Data Processing Systems and Charles River Associates. Both companies were located in Massachusetts, so it didn’t take long for them to get acquainted. In 1983, Autodesk bought Grinnell Data Processing Systems and Charles River Associates.
What do I need to get started?
At the time, the software was only available to computers with internal graphics controllers (

It’s been a while since I’ve written a proper post on the blog! I have been, however, busy with lots of crafting!
As you know, I’m now a lifetime subscriber to Patchwork Times magazine, and they have a fab sale in the April edition. I was sent a little tutorial by a blogger I know, Angie, which I have posted on my blog, and which I will also do here…
I must admit that, before starting to make the quilt, I was not entirely sure how to go about it! But as soon as I started to sew, I had fun creating this,
I did not know that I would have to make the outer’skirt’, but it was fun doing it. The fabrics are a few of the patches from that mag, although there are a few other lovely fabrics I’ve used in there too. The backing was already cut out, but I’ve put a red one in as well so it will look pretty in my kitchen.
The quilt is finished, except for the batting and the binding, but I can’t wait to get it on the dining table. It looks great!

Finally, the BOM is done, and I’m pleased to announce that I’m working on number 7…
This quilt top and 9 matching blocks were, along with a couple of others, going to make up my Hushed palette. The only trouble was, as I was working away, I kept making block after block, and they just kept adding up!
What’s New in the?
The AutoCAD Manual (A Guide to Essential Functions) features expanded coverage for 2020. The guide contains 20% more pages and 12% more illustrations, bringing it to 928 pages and 888 illustrations. (video: 1:36 min.)
The 2020 AutoCAD Essential Training video courses are available in four-day immersive learning packages or on demand (up to 6 hours of training per day). The 2020 R.I.P.D. and AEC product training resources (autoCAD R.I.P.D. and AutoCAD Electrical) are also now available in immersive learning packages or on demand. (video: up to 6 hours of training per day)
Application Form Design:
Prepare and upload installation and use documentation for AutoCAD Application Form Design, available in 2020 for the first time as part of the integrated Designer Suite. Design forms, workflow, and updates in a collaborative environment.
AutoCAD 2023 and the 2020 AutoCAD Essential Training video courses are also available on demand in immersive learning.
Three New Capabilities for Dimensioning:
In previous releases of AutoCAD, when you called the dimensioning command, the command failed if it ran out of space to draw on the current drawing. In AutoCAD 2023, you can choose from three new dimensioning options:
• Space lets you choose the point that is used to measure the dimension.
• Measurement lets you choose the point that is used to draw the dimension.
• Page lets you choose the page that is used to draw the dimension.
For more information on these dimensioning options, see the Dimensioning topic in the Help system.
AutoLISP Now Integrated in the Application Window and on the Home Tab:
An AutoLISP function automatically displays any available LINPACK files in the Application Window and on the Home tab. (video: 2:32 min.)
Changes in the Dimensioning, Hand Editing, and Vector Editing Capabilities:
Many options have been removed in dimensioning and vector editing to make it easier to understand and use the dimensioning and vector editing tools. If you call dimensioning or the line tool, the command either displays a menu or, if there are no dimensioning parameters to display, displays the current value of the width, height, or depth dimensions.
